Junction City
Junction City: The first of its kind
An emerging economy, Myanmar is slowly but surely transforming itself into one of the most liveable and attractive cities in Southeast Asia through large development projects. Among this is the 196,300 square metres Junction City. This integrated development is the first-of-its-kind in Myanmar. Combine this with its commercial developments and prime location, Junction City is poised to contribute significantly to the urban fabric of the capital Yangon.
Junction City is designed to take into consideration its physical relationship with significant adjacent sites, including Bogyoke Market, Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the sprawling Yangon General Hospital, ensuring that pedestrian and vehicular flows are optimised and view corridors enhanced. Junction City will be an intricate tapestry of spaces and people and will become a new gathering place for the people of Yangon, as well as a preferred choice of stay for tourists.
Well-informed. Well-structured.
Local statutory code compliance aside, one of the challenges DPE faced while working on Junction City is its structural schematics in lieu of its site and geographical context. Junction City lies in an earthquake-prone zone. This means that beyond carrying forth the architectural vision, our final building frame has the added goal of withstanding medium to high seismicity. Seismic loading, thus, formed the core focus of our structural design. The team also used modal/dynamic analysis to verify structural behaviour, which in turn enabled us to make informed design decisions.
