Genting Hotel Jurong
Optimising operations & costs: A Top-Down approach
The first to enter the hospitality fray in Jurong East, the 15-storey Genting Hotel development followed URA’s announcement of transforming Jurong Lake District into a second Central Business District in Singapore. Located along Jurong Town Hall Road, Genting Hotel is designed with the “Hotel in a Garden” concept through the integration of façade, lighting and landscape design with the building’s architectural form. Opened in April 2015, it will cater to and support the growth of business tourism in the area.

DPE’s scope of work in this project was both Civil & Structural (C&S) and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) alongside DPSD’s Environmental Sustainable Design consultancy services. By providing integrated services to the client, DPE’s design strategies were to ensure timely project completion, construction cost-effectiveness, efficient building operation and compliance with statutory requirements.
To achieve this, we applied a top-down construction method, where building works began at ground level first before progressing simultaneously to the basement and upper floors. This enabled us to provide significant savings to the overall construction time. Optimal sizing of building services systems also ensured high operation efficiency of the hotel. With these integrated design strategies employed, the project was also able to obtain the Green Mark Platinum award.
